September 6 we are thrilled to present the incredible jazz artist, Dr. Mike Pendowski
About Mike Pendowski
n 2011, a nationwide search by Auburn University resulted in the appointment of Mike Pendowski to the school’s music faculty as its saxophone teacher and head of its jazz program. Since then, he has made himself known as one of our region’s top players. Steeped in the history of this music, the Eastman-trained Chicago native performs throughout the southeast and presents projects at the university such as a Bird with Strings reboot and a Louis Armstrong revival band. He has appeared on stage with some of the world’s best musicians, and on September 6, this award-winning performer, composer, producer, and recording artist will bring his talents to The Sound Wall.
A True Listening Room Experience
For Jazz at The Sound Wall, we will transform our performance space into a listening room with cocktail tables set up for couples and small groups. Like Snug Harbor in New Orleans, the Village Vanguard in NYC, and the Jazz Showcase in Chicago, the listening room setting is that sweet spot between concert hall and social club. Patrons can be undistracted, devoting their full attention to the artists on stage. For socializing, we are opening the doors 30 minutes before the set for a catered reception. Throughout the night, listeners are free to move around the venue, but in the listening room, once the show starts, the main course is the music.
The band will be:
Dr. Mike Pendowski, saxophone and Flute
Julio Barreto; piano
Alex Mayweather; bass
Tim Chambiss; drums
